Hitinder Gurm, MD

Dr. Hitinder S. Gurm is the Chief Clinical Officer at the University of Michigan and is responsible for providing clinical operational leadership related to all clinical processes, systems, people and practices, focusing on improving safety, quality, timeliness and financial stewardship.

A professor of internal medicine in the division of cardiovascular medicine, Dr. Gurm obtained his cardiology training at the Cleveland Clinic and joined the University of Michigan in 2005 as an interventional cardiologist. He leads the Blue Cross Blue Shield Cardiovascular Consortium (BMC2), a multi-center, quality improvement registry funded by Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.The consortium focuses on improving the quality of care and outcomes for patients who undergo cardiovascular procedures in the state of Michigan.

Dr. Gurm has published more than 250 original articles and book chapters, and has been named as an inventor on 5 patents. He is the recipient of the Michigan Health & Hospital Association’s Patient Safety & Quality Leadership Award for 2016 and has been elected to the American Society for Clinical investigation (ASCI).
